About OpenPath
OpenPath is a public crowdsourced Internet reachability network. Volunteers run approved probes around the world. OpenPath administrators define the online services being tested, and the site publishes aggregated reachability by country and network.
The division of labour is the point: the public contributes vantage points, and OpenPath decides what is measured. That is what keeps it a measurement network rather than a service for pointing other people's machines at arbitrary targets.
What it is not
- Not a censorship-circumvention tool. It measures reachability; it does not restore it.
- Not a VPN, proxy or relay, and the probe cannot be made into one.
- Not an authority on why something is unreachable — only on what was observed.
